Mark was appointed to Eastern Parkway July 1, 2017 after teaching philosophy, religious studies, and American studies at colleges and universities for over twenty-five years. While teaching, he was also a part-time or full time pastor at several United Methodist churches. Mark comes to EPUMC after a Fulbright year of teaching and research in the American Studies program at the University Bergen, Norway.

Mark received his BA degree in Speech Theory and Rhetoric from Auburn University, his M.Div. from Duke Divinity School, and, after a year of research at the University of Durham, England, went on to complete his Ph.D. at Emory University in the area of Culture, Ethics, and Interpretive Theories.

Mark and his spouse Susan Cumings have a fourteen-year-old daughter, Annie Grace, and live in Delmar, NY. An older daughter, Weldon, lives in Atlanta, Georgia. Mark enjoys the outdoors, fishing, reading, and writing.

Betsy Lehmann

Elizabeth A. (Betsy) Lehmann, music director at Eastern Parkway UMC, also teaches voice and keyboard at the College of St. Rose and conducts the Schenectady Choral Society.

She received a doctorate in choral conducting from Indiana University School of Music, Bloomington, Indiana, where she was an associate instructor and conductor.  Earlier, Betsy earned a master of arts degree in music history from San Francisco State University, California, and a bachelor of arts degree in music theory and history from SUNY Geneseo.

Betsy appeared as Tolomeo in Upstate Chamber Opera's production of "Giulio Cesare" and has sung with Opera Saratoga.

Betsy is a resident of Ballston Spa, N.Y.
